Mount Daniel Elementary School
February 26, 2026
In celebration of Black History Month, the FCEPTA sponsored “Going the Distance” at Mount Daniel for two upbeat performances on February 26! The powerful show, performed by Discovery Theater/Bright Cardinal Creative, invited students to race to the finish line alongside two trailblazing Black Olympians who changed history: Jesse Owens and Wilma Rudolph.
With soaring music and the exhilaration of world-class sport, the vivid portrayal brought their inspiring journeys to life - from childhood illness and poverty to become the world’s fastest man and fastest woman — each earning the highest honor in athletics, the Olympic gold medal.
Thank you to the FCEPTA for bringing this unforgettable experience that celebrated perseverance, courage, and the enduring legacy of Black excellence to our Kindergartners, 1st and 2nd Graders.
Christylez Bacon: Human Beatbox

Christylez Bacon, GRAMMY nominated Progressive Hip-Hop artist, combines rhyming, storytelling, and interactive call and response choruses with diverse instrumentation (West-African Djembe drum, human beatboxing). This high-energy program teaches students about improvisation and the cultural diversity of various musical genres, blending traditional elements of musical styles from jazz to hip-hop.
Students will learn about the elements of improvisation and ensemble performance and explore a range of tone qualities, rhythms, and musical genres. The program will demonstrate how music can be created using the most basic materials such as an artist's own voice and body.
